Twisted my ankle - in my sleep

Thanks for the tip SquareDaff.
I do need new running shoes actually. Mr6 is trying to steer me towards the flexi sole ones he has, think they may be Nike, he's found them a great improvement. Hadn't looked at the barefoot ones though.
I'm still only half way through a 0-5k training plan, so changing style now would be better rather than doing it later I guess.
I had to drop my distances from 10k to 1k when I changed but then progressively eased it back up over 2-3 months. Now run the same distance in the same time. As you've only just started up then you probbaly wouldn't be affected as much as this. If you do "make the switch" then keep me informed. Would love to know how someone else gets on.

While I'm glad you said that Sara, I also wish you hadn't!
I will keep an eye on it, but last time it was gone the next day.
I did once have a mysterious pain and swelling in my foot - went to the doctors and they said "hmm, well you've definitely done something to it"

I'm sure its nothing sinister. It's just that your tale reminded me of how my experience started. I'd sat down to watch TV feeling ok, when I got up I had a nasty pain. Revisiting the texts between me and OH who was away is quite amusing. He asked what I'd been upto to pull my groin!

One other option is that it was done in bed, but not by twisting. If I wake and find I have been lying on my back, the weight of the quilt often pulls my foot down flat against the bed, but inline with the leg (so backside-knee-ankle & toes all touching the bed in a line) and sometimes that makes it sore like a sprained ankle (one problem with hyper mobility syndrome).

We have a 2nd quilt or blanket over our legs at night because I often wake with 'cramp' from cold legs in the early hours of the morning otherwise.

That's another possibility SNSSO, I guess I'll never know, just hope it goes back to normal just as quickly and mysteriously.
Thanks for the kind thoughts all.

No help to OP, but i once managed to dislocate my knee getting out of bed.

Managed to put it back in place by falling down the stairs at work.

I went to see a specialist about my knees once to be told that my cruciate ligaments are too long.

A few years ago, while spending a night in a B&B, the bed had a sort of headboard with bars like an iron railing, top and bottom. During the night, I must have put my foot through the gaps between the bars at the bottom of the bed.

I woke up the next morning, didn't realise and tried to get out of bed with my foot still stuck in the bed frame, fell on the floor and twisted my ankle in the process:cursing: A sort of clipless moment in bed!

On hindsight, I could probably have claimed for damages from the landlady!

Ow! but lol!
My ankle is fine today.
As for why run? I don't know, I just want to. It's actually harder than I thought it would be - or maybe I'm just more un-fit than I think I am. Cycling is definitely easier and more fun though.
