Dilbert kept us sane. Or maybe stopped us from realising we were crazy.

Can't you just paradigm shift with some blue sky thinking until everyone's on base and achieving optimal synergies?
I was just about to suggest that very thing!

I had the good fortune to work for Kelloggs - a great company with a fantastic line in what is now called HR. The manager of the factory had the sweetest line in management speak - we were always going to 'hit the ground running'. The thing is.......the words were daft, but the intention and the application were second to none. I've had a soft spot for managers ever since.

The IT development team I was once in was instructed that we had to go on some such course. One of my colleagues was seriously afraid, not his thing at all, and refused to go. He was threatened with the sack if he didn't go. So I ceased my opportunity (I wasn't keen on it either!) so sided with him. Sack us both, I postured. Neither of us went, neither of us got sacked. Nobody said any more about it.

I have attended more management courses than I care to mention.
The best thing I took away (and now use frequently) was from one of the consultants running a course.. When someone 'offers' to give you some 'feedback', just respond with "Thanks, but not right now, I'm not ready for it" and just walk off.

We had one of those a very long time ago, over a weekend on our own time that we had to go to.
I spent the whole weekend completely drunk or asleep hungover, my boss had to bite his lip as it was my own time and he could do much about it.

I did refuse to take the Belbin test and told them if they wanted to know anything they could just ask me, I was on my own with that one, everyone else did it. This one's proving a bit tricky to get out of though!

One of the best things about being a lorry driver is that there's absolutely none of this bollocks. I'm not expected to take any interest in my colleagues beyond trying not to run them over with the trailer wheels. I've been in the job 12 years now and no one's ever suggested I go on a team building exercise of any sort. And if they did they'd get told to shove it up their arse in short order.

I thought you were going on a weekend ride with some of the regular posters on here, Ed.

Meredith Belbin sounds like a fancy biscuit - I have been googling all sorts of things this morning. Good luck if your work are trying to knock some sense into you... I suspect you'll be having 'fun' really, you work tart.

I hate role playing. The only time I saw anyone enjoy it was when we had to pair up in a trust exercise. One had to fall backwards and the other catch him/her. There was a scrum to pair up with the boss as everyone wanted to drop him on his fat useless backside!
