Two Old Raleighs

I managed to pick up my Uncles two old Raleighs at the weekend.

Apart from flat tyres they are both serviceable.

One is in good condition and the other is a rough but still looks cool.

I will try and date them at the weekend.

I might keep one.

Nice, the rust on the wheel rims will help the rod brakes to stop faster............

@Rooster1 there is nothing nicer to have a relaxing ride on than an old style roadster as once up to cruising speed they go nicely but can take a while to stop for sure .

i love my old My 50's Raleigh Roadster as i have had it for over 3 years and have used it mainly for commuting on with the occasional 20+ rides just to clear the cobwebs away

I have fond and maybe not so fond memories of bikes with brakes that either didn't exist or wouldn't stop ....the answer then was to jump ship, mind you l was only 15 or 16 years old with sh*t for brains

Nice bikes they would make a great addition to any ones fleet, if you look at the sturmey archer rear hubs there should be a date on them.

You need to loosen one of the brake stirrup guides.

The bike on the left of the picture looks like it has been fitted with a Sturmey Archer AG Dynohub, which is a combined dynamo and gearbox. If that's right it shoud be a simple matter to undo the gear cable and electrical wires if fitted.

You need to loosen one of the brake stirrup guides.

You should be able to unhook the stirrup by pushing it inwards and then sideways

What tools do I need - I can't take "everything".

Pliers, flathead screwdriver, philips screwdriver, pliers, adjustable wrench ?

Should be OK, take 2 different size pliers though, I doubt you'll need allen keys though.

These old roadsters with rear forks instead of dropouts do make removing the rear wheel more difficult since the rear section of the enclosed chaincase and mudguard must come off. Then you have to take the chain apart at the master link. Still, I love them. Great bikes. Nice find!
