You know that loud text tone on Nokia phones. Apparently its morse code for 'C' 'Q' (seek you) and morse users have been using abbreviations like this for years.

text speak is nothing new, although it is irritating. Some of us are old enough to have sent telegrams in which two or more words were rolled in to one.

On all the nokia phones I've had the short morse code message is: SMS and the ascending one is: CONNECTING PEOPLE

Txt Spk was designed for phone engineers to communicate and it was based on telegraphic language...

What is a new development is that a particular technical shorthand has combined with street jargon to become a mass means of communication.

(wots nu? tech spk = ppl spk)
