ouch, Southwark Bridge Road at 5.50 on the way to evening classes, rolling along at 20mph, came wide to pass a cyclist already wide to pass a parked Royal Mail van, at which point two peds stepped out from behind the van with what can only be called gusto, not sure after that, I think the bloke in front of the two of them saw me and jumped forwards out of my way, suspect I started to swerve inside him, suspect the bloke trailing the first leapt forward to avoid the bike inside me, who I then hit plumb at 20mph or abouts
over the bars and landed on my left shoulder (the zealous will remember I'm getting close to settling an accident from Sept07 where I broke a (small) bone in the right shoulder). Cue me lying in road in proper pain wailing in agony, felt like a broken shoulder for a minute or more while the guily ped who seemed miraculously unharmed stood over me saying he was sorry, alternated with was I ok, and a single, 'I didn't see him, Nighhtvision top, and two proper bright front lights and a white helmet and street lights
a nice man claiming medical expertise and the other cyclist arrived and were very helpful and sympathetic , and eventually helped me and the bike out of the road, ped and friend naturally legged it at that point
shoulder felt much better, I declined ambulance and help carrying my bike back to work 500 yards away, front wheel is bent almost double, stuck it on my shoulder and found out pdq that I wasn't that alright after all
anyhow, made it, changed and went home on the tube, very sore shoulder, and a nasty puncture on left hip that bled all the way home leaving an impressive blood stain on my shirt and trousers, hole in the bib tights over puncture naturally enough
anyhow, well enough to stop off for beers, three paracetamol and three strong beers and a big plaster for hip, suspecting it's going to very sore in the morning, sundry twinges struggling to be heard over shoulder and hip
sigh, so a handbuilt mavic open pro wheel wrecked, fingers crossed for the carbon forks y'all
off sick tomorrow in anticiaption, expecting to see the GP tomorrow for a check and some anti whatevers
can't think what I could have done different really, perhaps not pass other bikes at the same time as parked high vehicles but one does tend to feel safe that far out into the lane
