No chance (IMHO) of a refund/exchange. Glass has cut the tyre, nothing unusual about that...personally i wouldnt have the brass neck to even try.
On a commuter fitted with gators, i had a similar sized slit on an almost new tyre. I use 1 inch wide emery tape. Its cloth backed, very strong and quite thin. It lasts very well but not permanent, just wants a new piece putting in every now and then.
Even at only say 1mm thick, you can feel the very slight bump as the wheel revolves, so anything thicker is going to be like riding a square wheel. Use the abrasive side to the tyre, it help grip and hold it in place.
But...emery tape works well for local riding. Riding further afield ?...i have, but you pays your money (or not as the case may be)

Just one of those things... Wouldn't bother pursuing a warranty claim, if it was me.

Section of old tyre cut out and placed between innertube and tyre, is the way to go.

If the inner tube is visible scrap the tyre, a repair is fine to get you home, I've done that myself, but not long term, if it fails you can almost guarantee it will happen at the worst possible moment.

Have swapped it out for the old one for tomorrow's 170K ride, glad I didn't throw them out, and consider my neck brass plated.

I have a racelight in the shed with about 100 miles on it and a similar slash. Coming downhill fast it was all I could think about so I bit the bullet and took it off.

I only ever had one tyre blow out (Hutchinson Equinox)and that was as a result of a glass cut luckilly it happened at slowish speed and close to home.

Re cut in tyre :-

Put anything that won't tear inside, as a get you home repair, (even a poly bag has worked).
If, like me, you want your monies' worth, fit a gator, I use an old 'tub' cut up, but a piece of thin tyre will do.
Put the tyre on the back wheel only; if you like, you can also use 'supaglue' to hold the cut shut.

(I've ridden hundreds, if not thousands, of miles on repairs of this sort.)
