The tubes were Nutrak 700 x 25-32c. They were only 5 weeks' old though. Maybe these tubes aren't very good quality? My wheels are quite cheap but the rim tape is good and thick - a comfy place for a piece of high pressure rubber! ;-)
The gashes in both tubes were about 4-5inches long and a little towards the face of the tube from the seam.
I'm very wary to use these tyres again in the summer time. I've popped on a pair of 23 Conti Gaitorskins for the moment. They're so much faster than the Schwalbes!! I hope I don't suffer from the dreaded 'p' word that should not be mentioned.
Great story Sleekitcollie - very similar bang and gash! I'm only glad I could get to Evans' Cycles before they shut so I could get home. Cost me over £50 though 2 new Spec tubes and the Gaitors.
