tyre liner ?

are they any good, i saw a slime set today and with the onset of winter wondered if they are worth the £££.

do they alter handling or performance very much. i have tried the schwalbe marathon plus tyre on my mountain bike but found their rigid form terrible as regard to handling cornering in the wet. was thinking of the insert for winter training on my road bike but would appreciate views of those that have used them. thanks

Just get some slime filled tubes, have them on my commuter.

Probably a biased view as I used them for 2 rides and had 3 punctures.

I did find they made a small difference in performance but not so much I wouldnt use them.

As for protection, who knows, considering my test Id say it was unlucky, rather than them making things worse.

What i would suggest though is to just get a puncture proof tyre for winter. Personally i use gatorskin hardshells, but theres a million threads on here that cover the topic and everyone has their oen suggestions.

a good pair of puncture resistant tyres would be better than slime IMO. I personally make no attempt to fend off punctures and still only get about 2-3 per year, and I do lots of miles.

Tyre liners tend to move inside the tyre which causes more punctures than they prevent.

On a Marathon Plus, the 'liner' is built into the tyre.

I use them on the mountain bike, I went through a stage of getting loads of punctures, I tried slime tubes but they just spewed out the green slime all over the bike, I run tubeless (ghetto setup) on the front been on about 2 years (no punctures fingers crossed) the back was tubeless but the Stans fluid delaminated the tyre so I now run a normal tyre with a tyre liner, the one I have in at the minute is fairly thick and at the point were it overlaps it leaves a ridge, this has caused a puncture, I have cut it & butt joined it together so we will see if this works, I have used thinner liners with no problem. I don't notice any difference in performance & despite the glitch with the overlap & don't seem to get as many punctures, I will go back to tubeless when I need to replace the tyres.
