I have a steel fast road bike with narrow wheels (Mavic MA40) and 700x25 tyres which are very nearly slicks. I only use this on fine days and good road surfaces. The tyre has a cut through the outer rubber layer and through to the carcass , which is in good shape itself. The whole tyre is in good shape apart from the cut. The photo I have posted does show it with a clothes peg holding the beads together, thereby exaggerating the slit. When on the wheel with the tube inflated it is barely visible but I could put a fingernail underneath the rubber and lift it.
Whilst I am not concerned about the chances of an explosive decompression of the tube, I think the tyre will make punctures more likely. I would appreciate any suggestions as to what adhesive would be suitable to fix the rubber to the carcass ply.
