Can't see much wrong with mixing the brands Paul. Main consideration as you realise is having the best one on the front.

Sounds like a good plan to just change the front then.. and stick the old front on the back when that gets kknackered.

Nothing wrong with putting the front on to the back, but never the other way! The rear wears flat, which gives strange steering habits when on the front!

Why does everybody take this one mans word as gospel? He seems to have written some interesting things (if dated) but it doesn't mean everything he has written is right.

What is it that irritates you about him Rob? I for one appreciate the advice i read on his site mainly because as a novice it's educational.

He doesn't irritate me, (well he does a bit, because his website seems to read like it is completely factual regardless of whether it is just his opinion or not, not sure how much that is down to him though, I understand someone else maintains the website) what I find mildly irritating is that people trot out Shelden to answer almost anything as a 1st port of call, without checking it out, simply assuming it is correct, granted his website might be particularly useful at times, but there is also a lot of content that is simply his (questionable at times) opinion.

Ah well i'm guilty of that i suppose. Its no different than reading something that you or others on here post, whose opinions i respect and blindly following them until i find out differently.
I dont get the sheldon bashing on here tbh, because no one forces anyone to believe it. Take from him what you will. As for the rest well thats not forced upon anybody.

I've always found that front to back and back to bin works well most of the time.

Breaks down a bit when tyres get vandalised (slashed) or they get wrecked by flints, glass and so on. The comment above about never moving a tyre from back to front is spot on. I did it once - only once and never again.

The Sheldon Brown website is one of the most useful on the web, but nothing's perfect!
