Tyre Size

Hi Everyone
I need to replace the tyres on my Dawes Galaxy, there stating 28x1.25.
Most tyres i am finding online a re 700cx25.
Is the same size, i have been out of cycling for a good few years, not sure if sizing has changed.

Its a vintage of 1999 (ish).I think there is something simmilar, ill have a look when i get home .

Is the way tyres are sized nowadays.

Excellent, thanks for the info.I will stay simmilar is width, i`m still a little prtly, lol. Also i do varied riding, canal tow paths etc.
