Tyres for the commute

Michelin Krylion Carbon... if you can get hold of them.
Schwalbe Durano Plus are supposed to be good if you want something light - Schwalbe Marathon plus if you want them bomb-proof but heavy.
Conti 4 Seasons are liked by some but never get my vote. I had heaps of punctures with those.
Not tried any others on the commuter.
I have conti GP4000s on the best bike. Love them, but they'd get too many punctures at too high a cost to be used for commuting IMO.

1 puncture in over 6000 miles of South East London's finest crap strewn, pot holed filled roads.
BUT... You must get in the habit of checking your tyres. Especially if commuting on a daily basis. Check every morning. Takes less then a minute to see if there is anything stuck in the tyre. If so dig it out otherwise it will eat it's way in and cause a puncture.

I'm using Bonty Racelights at the moment; they've nothing special on the p'ture protection front but they're light and were reduced at the time. FWIW I can't remember off hand when they were fitted Jan or Feb but they've only had 1 p'ture but that is probably more down to wear I ride and rider weight (although the bike weighs the proverbial tonne!).

+1 on the Krylion Carbons - they've now been replaced with Pro 4 endurance or somesuch, dunno if these are as good.
Since my Krylions died I've gone back to Lithium 2 - A really good all-round tyre for a nice price.

3 on the front - one on the rear - new tubes evrytime for me - all flints and glass removed after every puncture - the punctures happen on the way home on the same track i use on the way in

As said before, Marathon Plus although they are heavy and slow and slippery in the icy stuff. A bugger to remove in an emergency but I've never had to which was the point of going this way. Ultimate peace of mind I suppose but never say never when it comes to the fairy!

+ another one for the Durano +. My road bike tyre of choice.
What I run on my commuter (the Portland) is the Marathon Supreme- on 28mms, and those are much lighter than D+ in that size (folding vs non-folding for one thing). Not as tough- one visit so far- or as long-lasting though. Still recommended with those caveats.

Same as StuAff, D+ on the road bike and Supremes on the CX bike, incidents are few and far between.
Will probably downsize the CX tyres from 35's to 28 or 32 next time though.
Schwalbe Marathons. never had an unplanned deflation but always carry a spare... not least in case the valve goes! no one ever thinks of that until it happens. they are a bugger to get on/off until you get the knack (plenty of stuff on youtube with tips for getting them on and off) but they are designed so you shouldn't have to take them off. Marathon plus are supposed to be even better but haven't got those.
I haven't had a puncture once ever since I got my 4 Seasons about a year ago and I often take really bad roads. I heard about Michelin Krylion Carbon tho.
What is the advantage of these tires compared to the 4 Season or even the Conti GP 4000s?
