Tyres from a well known auction site with 'eggs' in them

I have bought 4 pairs of tyres of different types over the last 2 years, from 12 to 70 quid a pair, all have had an egg in them, from minor to downright dangerous, is this just a facet of mail ordering stuff?
I'd support a loacl shop if there was any that were not big box type stores.
Any recommendations for a 26" tyre 40 x 559 with all year road and semi off road bridal path tread?

There are also local shops with an online presence, eg SJS, Spacycles etc if you have no good LBS
Assume you've returned all the faulty ones

Maybe try your local Halfords, they might have 26"x1.5" Schwalbe CX Pros in stock.

Was going to suggest Schwalbe Landcruiser (maybe even Plus for better puncture protection), but smallest 26" variant I could see was 1.75".

26" you say.

Schwalbe Land Cruisers. Roll OK and are fine off road. Centre tread is a continuous band of rubber so roll better than full knobblies. I use them for commuting on a 'mixed' surface. Also fairly puncture proof. Fine in mud and on gravel.

I pay £100/150 for a pair of tyres depending on what they are. If you want to buy online, I guess you've used Ebay to date, try a well-known retailer such as Merlin. Merlin are generally very competitive on price.

Cheap tyres off Ebay could easily be cheap and dangerous knock-offs. Never buy cheap tyres as they're basically dangerous.
