I'm sure there are threads on this somewhere but there are new and better tyres out there now. What is the best tyre to put on your bike for sportives etc?

Depends on conditions, I've rode a few on specialized all condition with no problems, and some on conti 4 seasons that are just a good. But if I had to choose then I would say the conti's.

This one is done a lot and you'll get at least 6 recommendations

If you're looking for speed, then Conti GP4000S or 4 Seasons, Vittoria Rubino Pro, Michelin Pro 4, all good for speed and puncture resistance. Personally I'm a fan of the Contis.

Jury is still out for me on the Contis they may well roll well, they may be puncture resisitant, but I've had three split on me. Probably just bad luck and nothing to do with the tyre, but the other two brands of tyres I've used, Vitoria and Bontrager have not yet split.

I ride the bomb proof (touch wood) Mitch Pro 4 Endurance and I'm just switched back to GP4000s for summer. If I only had one set though the Mitch Pro4 Endurance would be my choice, not quite as grippy or well rolling as the GP4000s but almost as good, and are a lot better on the wear/ p'ture front. Oh and the Pro 4 Endu are cheaper too

All my contis in the last 5 years have suffered splits at the side wall, its not bad luck on your part the tyres are weak there.

Interesting, that's where mine have split, the last one done less than 200 miles...still had the nobly bits on. I am most pi$$ed off about it.

I sympathise greatly, when I was a student I bought the cheaper base Gran Prix 's' and they split both split at low mileage and IIRC one of them was only on their 2nd or 3rd ride out. That primarily inspired me to look around and I found the th Mitch Kyrlion Carbon's (now rebranded Pro 4 Endurance) to be the best all round for grip/roll/wear/p'ture resistance/cost. For a few years I ran the Krlion Carbons all year round.

Maybe I'll try those next time I buy, for now I'm running the other newish Conti on the rear and a Bontrager, that was on the bike originally on the front. It's spoiling my sense of order at the moment, but I'm trying now to spend money on non essential stuff for the next three months.

Ultremo ZX get a vote from me. Great tire. Cheap online too. No matter what you ride, you will like them. Even if you prefer something more.
