It's not quite that simple these days though, is it? Gone are the days when you paid a tenner and hopped on the next ship bound for Australia. Other countries are not as willing to welcome foreigners with open arms, unless you have a particular skill that they want. At my age, and with my work background, it is unlikely that I would score much on their point system (talking NZ/Oz/Canada here). As for Europe; apart from the weather, most countries have similar problems to us.
As you know, people here have all sorts of ties which make emigrating a big problem. That doesn't mean that they are hanging around here because they like the place. It's not great (and not likely to get better any time soon), but there are worse. There are also a lot better but my chances of being able to afford a house in the Seychelles are slim
