BigJim, what's an OP?
Ok, first up, sorry for any feeling that I was being harsh. You described yourself as unemployed and on benefits, and nowhere did you mention any health issues (whether physical or mental). Had you mentioned the incapaciity benefit, which I am well aware of, comment would of course not have been made. It is quite likely that the exercise etc of a trip like that will help your health.
I am not a heartless sod and last night took in two complete strangers from the world of cycle touring, put them up for the night, fed them etc, so probably unfair to class me as cold based upon one forum comment. And do look at warmshowers.com for a source of accommodation
The rest of my post stands - look at the positives you can offer to a travelling partner.
Do be realistic about money and have a friend/family member standing by for any massive emergency etc
Best of luck
I can think of many people I know on incapacity benefit who would not be able to make such a trip due to the nature of their incapacity. And I just re-read the OP and it mentions unemployment and lack of fitness and an "extreme budget" - no mention or hint of being on incapacity benefit or health problems that might be significant limiting factors.Would they even be able to make the trip if not on incapacity or a similar benefit?
It was kind of clear to me what the situation was.

I am not sure if you read my post earlier today Delport as you say "The other thing to take on board is a cycle trip can help someone get well and get back to work" which is pretty much exactly what I said here "It is quite likely that the exercise etc of a trip like that will help your health."
Those who know me well from this forum know where my heart is. All the best for what is a beautiful ride.
