Yes, at least so far as is possible.

In NL, the regular vaccination programme for children has been suspended in its entirely whilst swine flu vaccination is carried out. Our children are scheduled for vaccination tomorrow, although one has chickenpox so I guess she'll now be excluded.

The vaccine purchased by the Dutch authorities has thiomersal (a mercury-based preservative I think) and squalene adjuvant which some people get concerned about.

They probably won't be getting it unless they are in a clinical at-risk group. The initial 500 doses should be used up pretty easily in most practices, where there is also a disincentive to give it to anybody not in an at-risk group as they won't be paid.

There was a bit on Radio 4 that said the death rate, once you are admitted to hospital is around 50%. As an Asthma sufferer it was a no brainer to have both the ordinary flu jab and the swine flu jab.

They are made the same way and the only risk I know of is there only if you are allergic to eggs. Egg albumen is used as a growth medium for all flu jabs.

im 32 and my son is 2.5yrs. We both had ours on Saturday. Felt a bit rough across the weekend but fine by Monday. We decided to go for it as I have Asthma and my son seems to pick up every cold their is going of which we then trade off each other.

50% are you sure. Sounds pretty extreme then.

Got mine tomorrow afternoon, already had the normal flu jab.

Waiting to see if our nine month old gets a letter from the doctors saying she is eligible for it. Will probably take them up on it if she is. Mrs Andylaw was a bit concerned about the risks. A bit of research has put her mind at rest. By all accounts it has had more testing than the normal flu jab that is available every year due to the fact that normal strains change slightly so the normal flu jab changes to compensate.

I'm surprised there are so many adults having the jab.

I just went online to have a quick search of NHS direct and I see one of the enquiries is from someone who is concerned as her dog is displaying symptoms of Swine Flu...........;)

My 3yr old and myself have had it already, but she will be getting the jab anyway as I am sure that there is no limit to how often you can catch it and she deserves as much protection as I can give her.

As for me, well, it was a lot milder than I expected.
