...apart from the lady who rather oddly managed to get stuck...

She rode her bike into a space narrower than herself.

...I probably would have done the same thing if I could see that the traffic in front wasn't moving...or gone on the other side, but not waited where you were. Sorry.

I could see that the only thing that was stopping the bus from moving was the blue car caught across the entrance to the bus lane. The moment that the driver of that car realized that they could move out of the way the bus was going to move. I had no way of knowing when that would happen. Being there I could also tell that there was no route down the right hand side of the bus.

Strewth, shame it was a woman that had difficulty there, just re-inforces the women and large vehicles don't mix chain of thought. Had that bus moved she could have increased the statistical gap between women and men having accidents with large vehicles even more.

It also shows that when she, if indeed she was a she, got stuck she made a real meal of trying to clear the bus and kerb greatly increasing her chances of being crushed if it moved forward. I can't see why didn't she realise straightaway the danger she had put herself in and got off onto the pavement asap to clear the bus? Not faff around trying to push herself forward with her feet. As stupid as she was it doesn't bear thinking about her being another seriously injured cyclist and a female one at that if she was indeed a girl. Shocking. All the previous cyclists were nutters as well.

...but motorists and other road users, peds do the same and put themselves at risk all the time. You just don't have to copy them.

Sadly a work colleague today undertook a bus and I was a bit taken aback and he also pulled out in front of a BMW without looking.Luckily the beemer driver was very good about it.He blamed me saying I said go but I didn't say don't look.

All the previous cyclists were nutters as well.

Not really as they did it on the pavement and although I don't agree with that,if they insist on doing that sort of undertake I'd rather they did that.

Lets face it half of London cycles like this.

Something similiar happened to me the other day. Two Women...sorry ladies....went past me while was i stuck behind a Bus. I couldn't overtake due to the narrowness of the road and not being able to see what was heading from the other direction so decided to just wait where i was. All went according to the ladies plan and they made it to the front of the traffic queue just at the edge of a T-junction. Where they sat back chatting....sorry ladies....while i was still behind the Bus. Anyways the traffic moves forward a bit which gives me a some safe room to pass this Bus. I make to the head of the traffic but then i am stuck behind the said two ladies. So when the lights finally go green they slowwwllllyyyy move off in a line. Due to my super duper leg powers i am obviously faster and i have no other choice but to overtake them both while other vehicles are trying to pass by. Basically my long-winded point is squeezing past the Bus did not give these two fine ladies any advantage what so ever. It only put them in harms way.

Thanks for the link / video. An educational vid for my son who I've started taking out in some traffic and better than just telling him not to do it. I've been using this type to emphasize to him why you just do not ever undertake large vehicles.

The cyclists who went to the left of the road sign were pavement cyclists. I don't like it and wouldn't do it, but I would suggest that the risk for them was fairly low. The cyclists that went to the right of the road sign were idiots, as they were at greater risk buses mount kerbs all of time, so the cyclists could have got into trouble.

The last cyclist is a Darwin award winner! Seriously, had I been there I would have tried to catch up with them later to point out how close they had become to becoming a statistic. What was he/she thinking!

OMG.

That's unbelievable. The first one I thought, okay he's riding on the pavement.. what a tw@t as he didn't really slow down too much... but some of the others!!!!!! The person who got stuck for a bit - what were they thinking (assuming of course that they actually had a brain!).

Muppets.

Agree 100%

You see it all the time - not just in London. Education is needed - show that a few times on peak time TV for a start.

Needed someone there handng out copies of Cyclecraft!

Have to say though - no indication from the Bus driver... and you're assuming he/she knew what was going on up the side of the vehicle... possibly not.

I can't see the bus indicating either - doesn't excuse what they did though especially the sticky one!!!

When I first started to cycle I had an incident a bit like this on Broad Street in Birmingham. For anyone that knows it is it full of buses and if you can't get past them it can take 15 minutes to do the 1/2 mile stretch - plus there is a big "bumpy" bit down the flipping middle that makes it impossible to ride in that zone on a road bike.

I thought the bus was going to be stuck where it was for ages so I went through on the inside - I was about half way down when the bus started to move AND pull in at the same time! Oh my god I cakked myself but I did jump up onto the kerb really really quick to get out of the way! Very red faced!

I can't understand why that woman faffed about for ages and ages without getting out of the way!

Sheep have more sense than that lot...

Ironically, that is a good point. Did you notice that when one cyclist chose to squash by on the tiny slice of road left between the bus and the kerb, a whole load of others followed (including the last one who got him/herself stuck)?

I would suggest this is a powerful argument for everyone on this forum to ride with care and attention at all times (I am sure we all do, anyway ;)) pour encourager les autres.

A lot of us are probably fairly confident cyclists and can probably decide we would take a calculated risk where we should really hold back. However it is worth being aware that someone else less experienced might be following behind us...

If we are keen on promoting safe cycling, then this is the least all of us can do.
