hello CC'ers

as the title says, ive picked up a frame and forks for no other reason than I needed the forks but the frame is knackered. on inspection there are a few details that I haven't seen before and it got me curious. its a bit of a mystery as to why someone would have something powder coated/refinished when the stay is as bad as it is.

the first is the cable guides on the bb shell for front and rear mech?
second are the threaded holes on the underside of the downtube - stand provision?
thirdly are the lugs, although nothing special, not exactly plain either.

if any one can help solve my mystery, it would be appreciated

You can sneak in a bottle cage close to the bottom bracket on the down tube. Touring bike trick lol

Yes. I have those on two bikes. I suspect frame-prep (shot-blasting?) before powder-coat might have caused those holes, the stay being nearly corroded through beforehand.

Any visiible stamped markings. Bottom bracket, rear lugs or below the seatpost clamp?

Possible test piece, for checking someone's ability. There'd be no need to clean a second time and refinish.

I can't see any due to the powder coat thickness!

I can get it stripped for a tenner, which I may do just so I can see the extent of the damage to the chain stay. I've shown that to a welder mate of mine and he says he can sort it out fairly easily.

Thanks to all who replied, keep them coming.

Sure us a good looking frame . Late 70's to early 80's. Frame rot down there can be fatal. 531 was pretty thick there for some reason so might be ok. When 753 came out they removed surplus metal from that area to save weight. When any rot set in it trashed the frame! I'd have it stripped and inspected. I'd think about a new stay as its a nice frame
