Unlocked locked phone

I bought an Android payg smart phone from a high street retailer that was supposedly locked into the Orange or EE network but tried an O2 simcard and find it works perfectly so they are unlocked. I don't know why they don't say all their phones are unlocked.

I would hazard a guess you bought from Carphone warehouse, 99% of phones that come out of there are factory unlocked.

I had the same experience once...bought a 'locked' phone & found another network's sim worked fine. I think a lot of it is like those people who list stuff on ebay as 'spares or repairs' cos they can't be bothered to check every unit and don't want any comeback. They're just hedging their bets, even tho' they know half of them are actually fine.
