I bumped into a bloke riding a penny farthing round my local park the other day, I'm the only Birdy rider I've ever seen on the north side of Manchester. A few people have stopped and chatted about it.

Trek Soho. I was keen on getting my grubby mitts on one of those but they didn't sell well, so Trek dropped them.

Surely if you'd got your mitts on one of those, grubbiness would not have been an issue.

I raise this point not only because it is very important, but because I fear you may be giving an unhelpful and false impression of the advantages or otherwise of belt-drive bicycles.

One might have hoped to expect better.

I regularly scalp a guy and his daughter on their way to school/work on a tandem, there are loads of those bakfiets too in cambridge and i often see a lady on a tricycle taking her daughter in to school, the single wheel at the back....

It also amazes me that so many folks ride seriously good bikes to work in central London. Why would you ride your £2k+ carbon "pride of joy" on crappy roads in heavy traffic? I have a £1k alloy road bike but keep that at home for the weekends and use my cheaper, and certainly more robust, cyclocross bike for commuting.

if they're working in the city, maybe the £2k bilke is their cheap crappy commuter bike? :bicycle:

I saw a Pedersen once, but unfortunately I was driving, so didn't get the chance to talk to the rider.

Wouldn't be this one by any chance?

From memory (it was a few years ago) it was a dark colour - I've not seen it since and it was on a road I travel several times a week. I think I'd have remembered if it was pink and yellow, that must be truly unique! Is it yours?

It's rare I see a more unusual bike than mine. :-)
There is a local guy with a recumbent handcycle, though.

I see a chap on a unicycle sometimes looking as though he's the most normal cyclist in the world.
I've only seen one recumbent and the bloke was making it look very hard work.
There's a young lad who has done things to a schwinn bike that looks pretty cool who pops into the shop now and again.
