So what have you done? This 60 year old has done 5 hours in the pool and 4 hours on the turbo, along with a couple of hours of core and stretches and 2 hours kayaking. Mind you I am not racing next year, or I might have put a bit more in on the bike.

I've seen you get a mixed bag of replies when you start threads about training for races, but let me wish you all the best in your endeavours. I really hope you get where you want to be, and will be very interested to hear of your progress.

Well said....he has had a lot negative Arsey comments directed at him in the past.
Even the first reply on this thread was one of sarcasm. But judging by who posted it, it isn't a surprise.
Good man!

I'm not entirely sure about any previous history, but personally I'm a bit envious I spent my youth another way.

No sarcasm, just giving an insight into what others do. He wants to race, and not hopefully finish last.

You lot can be the nice cop and I will be the bad one.

Ditch the swimming and spend another two hours on the bike, is my suggestion. If you are training to improve your cycling, then swimming will not be as good as the equivalent amount of cycling.

I would certainly agree with that.

I would also add that he might like to do some upper body strength training to strengthen the body core which will be essential if he is planning upon racing, example...http://www.bicycling.com/training/s...n-the-most-important-core-muscles-for-cycling
