Upgrade from Hybrid to Roadie for 74yo

My mum has ridden all her life, and recently taken up group cycling with some local cyclists. She feels she can't keep up and wants to go a bit faster than her Marin Larkspur currently carries her. It's a heavy hybrid, flat bars, with racks, running Marathon plus tyres. She wants drop handlebars though she hasn't used drops for quite some years.

Almost certainly secondhand.

Suggestions?

Maybe a lighter flat bar road bike would fit the bill? I certainly dont feel held back by my hybrid when out in an otherwise drop bar group.

Something like a Whyte women's roadbike?

I'd get rid of the M+ on the current bike first, horrid slow things!
