Looks like you upgraded the wheels already.
Tyres would make a difference.
What about changing the shifters for tiagra + 9 speed cassette and have 1 more gear.

Hmm, I was tempted at first, but seems like a waste of a good £200, just to have 1 extra sprocket. Slap another £235 on that and I can get myself a decent carbon frame.

Maybe (*touches wood*) if my shifters break, I would go for tiagra.

I am tempted by the Ultegra Chainset from Planet X, for £100 it doesn't sound like too bad of a deal, but I actually need to save up money first

If you are so strapped for cash that you need to save up £100 for a chainset that you don't really need, then I would save your cash. You will need to do maintenance (tyres, brake blocks, cables etc) at some point so keep money for that. Don't waste it on upgrades

I just had a week's triathlon training in Lanzarote. I took my £400 Trek 1.2 triple in preference to my very pricey BMC road bike and it kept up with everyone fine. Having a bike 1kg less and £2500 more expensive does not necessarily help - so I left it behind!

the heavist parts of a bike are the groupset, frame and wheels. i would reccommend saving up a good wack of dough and building your own bike as you can have it the way/look/feel you want, but you can also upgrade as you go along.
i would reccommend upgrades and ceramic bearings are worth every penny if your going to invest in quality as no point spending little and expecting alot. campy have the best ceramic bearings on the market at prsent as they use oil instead of grease which = a shitload less friction and far greater life and far less maintainance
