Buy one of those £1 savings tins and put every spare penny you have in it. Look at pictures of fancy bikes for a few months then rip it open and see what you can afford!

Relatively new yes, last season was when I first realized I liked road cycling so I was building base miles and get used to riding; this year is a little more serious (sportfis and a trip to the alps planned) and generally riding more often, further etc So far everything is going well and I feel good on the bike..

I definitely don't have plans to do too much this season at all (Apart from the wheel set which will probably be worse for wear before then), so really i'm planning ahead before before I'm tempted to spend in the wrong areas and waste money (that's fairly tight anyway).

Perhaps just saving a little bit here a little bit there for a year and see where that takes me is a good plan...at the end of the day, this year it'll by physical ability rather than the bike that will be the main source of improvement.

IMO, £1k is the sweet spot, sadly this appears to be moving up toward about £1200 with some brands. So I would kind of recommend just saving the extra. But of course not everyone wants to sink a grand into a bike.

You will get great bikes for cheaper that will perform very well, I just base my opnion on the fact that at around £1k-1.2k you get the best compromise between frame and componentry based on my wants and needs in a bike. So as you can tell, this comment is biased toward what I would be looking for in a bike, I have not bothered to look around for other things.
If you find the best prices for upgrades on new parts it could end up being worth it however in time u may want a new bike but that's your choice. I got a triban 3 too i'm thinking of a few upgrades to it. They are not too big. Tbh why do you wanna think about the resell value of the bike. First off the resell value of a bike drops so quick it ends up being pointless selling it off and you bought the bike the ride not to sell.

If you look around, T3's sell secondhand for arounf the £220 - £250 mark, that's not bad in my book.

I agree with Rob3rt here, I don't think upgrading the groupset is going to give you the increase in performance that you're going to pay for. Besides, the 2300 set is decent enough, maintain it and I reckon it'll last for a good while. Wheels & tyres yes, any other changes/upgrades on the T3 is for comfort and a decent fit IMO.
