I focus on upgrading the rider. more gym, more hills and trying to eat less. usually fail on the last one.

I do worthwhile upgrades. My Trek 1.2 is basic and the stock brakes a bit naff, so fitted a pair of 105 calipers, much better now.
Otherwise I just stick a set of SPD pedals on and a Charge Spoon.
Currently debating whether or not to upgrade the stock BB5 calipers on the Boardman CX to BB7, and I haven't even built that yet...

Checked scales against a 1kg bag of rice. My scales read 1030 grs, so allowing for the weight of the bag itself, sounds alright to me.

In which case ... what kind of wheels have you got that weigh that much less than most wheels that cost well over £1,000 a pair? Not being funny, but if they really were that light than of course you wouldn't feel the need to upgrade them - because you would really struggle to find lighter ones!

You've got me curious now! I have a set of digital kitchen scales and I also have a spare lightweight*** front wheel which is currently without a tyre or tube attached. I'll nip downstairs and weigh it. I will report back in a minute ...


*** Small 'l' - it is a Campagnolo Proton!

I only weighted the front wheel on each bike and it was 0.487 with tubes and tyres on. Just to make sure, I will do it again tomorrow.

Here is my front Proton. It has a rim tape on and QR skewer in place, but no tyre or tube. This is a pretty lightweight wheel!

The tyres I use (Michelin Lithion 2s) weigh about 230 g and the tubes about 95 g, so the total weight of the wheel with tube and tyre would be about 1.1 kg.

very likely - the tyre I will be putting on the Aksium is listed as 210gm, tube 80gms. Total around 1.2 kg.
