i want to upgrade my mechanical disc brakes to hydraulics. I do a mix of all types of cycling - road, woods, parks etc. Ive got a budget of around £100 to spend on a set. Having completed a search on this forum, it seems there is a common problem with the Avid brakes. which is a shame as i saw a set of avid juicy 3's on ebay for just under £100. does anyone have any recommendations on which makes i should look at? also, what is the difference between an open and closed system?

What's the problem with Avids? I run them on both MTB's, fantastic stoppers IMO

I never had any probs with Juicy 3's that I didn't have with other hydraulic brakes...apart from having to buy the quite expensive bleed kit for them anyway.

you,d be looking at budget ranges from top manufacturers like avid, hayes, shimano. at that price

I would recommend hope brakes but more expensive/popular, if you have already have disc rotors you may get lucky on classifieds or ebay if someone upgrades calipers, levers etc. from a new bike
