£1200 total for front and back doors , fitted from Safestyle about a year ago...so circa £600 per door. They weren't anything fancy mind. Panel bottom, patterned glass top and letterbox...quite basic.

Done 2 weeks ago 2800 for back door and 5 windows, 3 with opaque glass (more expensive) at the bottom for privacy.
Mine are nothing fancy, you pay for tilt etc.
Worth shopping about as I was quoted 4,500 for the same plus a front door.
This contractor refused to fit a upvc front door as it is against the health and safety laws (for a close), the previous one did not tell me this.

Can I recommend NOT going with SS (I don't even want to type their name!), as mentioned up the thread.... my experience of them was it took over two hours to get them to leave the house and they were very aggressive when we said we were getting further quotes. They then kept ring us up frequently through the following years trying to sell us double glazing even after I told them I'd gone with someone else. It got to the point my kids could tell when it was them on the phone as the way I spoke to them changed!! We've moved so we haven't heard from them for 5 years now!

Since you are sort of local I used CR windows, and I can also report that I have frequently been passed by their vans in a safe way. They weren't the cheapest but offered a good product and service, and we visited a showroom to see the windows as well. No pressure to buy, the guy gave us a quote in about 15-20 mins.

Like Summerdays said, steer clear of the Nationals, SS, Anglian and Everest. Hard sell liars and bullies. I had them round with similar results as above when I did my windows. I eventually went with a local company, straight forward quote, no hassle and did a fine job. Go on local recommendation.

To be fair, and I've used Safestyle twice, you do get the hard sell and stupidly inflated initial quotes that you just have to nail down to something more sensible, shame you have to go through that palaver.
That said, on both occasions, their punctuality, speed of work and quality hasn't disappointed me.
I did consider using someone else the second time for the hard sell bull....but rather assumed they're all cut from the same cloth.

Get a quote from a local window door fitter..no hard sell bull, bla bla mysticle stuff We sell. dont pay for flash cars and egos. .
Anything from 350 to 1200 depending on quality..you get what you pay for.
ive never understood why anyone would use a company who can drop their quote from 20k to 2700 to price match..fook um dont pay thieves. .

I'd get 2 or 3 quotes from local independents

Anyone in SW London, I can highly recommend SCI who did my house a couple of years ago  indeed the back door is the only bit I didn't get replaced!

SS actually told me lies, at least three lies in order to add unnecessary work to the quote. One of them they said that extra venting was required to comply with FENSA regulations. I let him carry on, but at the end when I finally told him to leave I pointed out that FENSA was a trade association and not a regulatory body and that he was a shiester.

I'd definitely get composite door, stronger and look nicer
Would hate to be going through the new door/windows thing again.
We used a local firm with an excellent reputation and it was a nightmare from beginning till end (2 years later) when they had finally sorted all the botches. Very stressful and cost us £8600. They did give us £200 off though as a gesture of goodwill!!!!
One of their guys told me they'd got too greedy, couldn't keep up with demand so we're employing people who couldn't do the job.
Payback time came  saw their salesman across the road at two of the neighbours, after they'd gone I went across and told them of our experience, Thistle Windows didn't get the jobs :okay:
