Urban chaos, Dutch-style

Have a look at this live webcam, complete with sound, which shows a four way junction ( complete with trams ) on Koningsplein, central Amsterdam. Quite how the cyclists manage to avoid multiple pile-ups is a source of complete wonder.

Source of amazement? No, that's how people work, quite naturally avoiding collisions. High speed and motorvehicles make that no longer possible.

Cool. I just saw a woman riding a Christiania with a little boy kneeling on the seat facing her, presuambly to chat.

Still waiting to see a tram though. Is the tram track the banana shaped bit at the front?

Interesting to see how they have covered for any possible emergencies arising among male pedestrians being unduly delayed in the traffic island by heavy traffic, you just don't get that level of consideration in this country.

What's needed is to combine this with a site like Ship AIS so that every figure has a little icon saying what bike they are on!

How strange. Just seen a group of police motorbikes block the road and van after van (look like police vans) drive through with police motorbike escort, and the odd bus / coach in the middle. Bizarrely, one of the coaches clearly had balloons tied to the roof.

Even now there are what look like police vans waiting at the crossing.

I wonder what is going on?

Yeah, what was that all about? Funnily, the police bikers reopened the junction and went off, and then more of those grey vans came through.

Police escort for a very large hen party?

It's terribly addictive. I'm still waiting to see a Brompton. Seen another pedicab and two Bakfiets though.

Horses! About 10, riding two abreast, must have been Police, riding on the tram route.
