How long?

I recently bought the Anker Astro 2 USB charger to charge my Garmin 800 on day rides. I did a 200 on it and I'm confident it could probably get me through double that distance.

It's for my edge 200 on an overnight 300km ride, and if i can, it will be used for directions for the route rather than just recording the ride. There are claims the battery can last 16 hours, but I don't think that will be close in real life conditions with the back light on

How long do these fancy Garmins last on one charge?

My old Etrex lasts 24-28 hours as long as I don't use the back light (which I never do). I never intend to ride more than 18 hours and always charge the batteries before use so batteries going flat is never going to be an issue for me.

I've got one of these (also have one of the same firm's 2xAA ones). AA batteries so easy to replace if need be, and the 3xAA one has enough oomph not just to keep my Edge 705 going but to recharge the battery as well (the 2 battery one can do one or the other, but not both). Not waterproof itself but stick it in a decent tri bag on your top tube and it'll be fine.

At one time, I thought that I might eventually ride 300s and 400s so I wanted a GPS that would work for at least 24 hours on one charge so that was one of the reasons why I went for a simple Etrex. Also - they use AA batteries so I could always buy some replacements from a garage if I had to.

The mapping Edges (605/705/800/810) will generally last about 15-16 hours on a full charge (obviously dependent on backlight use, whether you're following a route or just using it for ride logging, etc). Batteries are fixed but that's not really a problem for heavy use if you're prepared.

One issue is cables

With some cables the data pins are disabled. If this is not the case then the unit goes into data mode andwill not record.

Might be worthwhile taking a look at the PowerTraveller website, they specialise in products to give portable power.

I have one of these https://powertraveller.com/iwantsome/primatepower/powermonkeydiscovery/

I use it to keep my iPhone charged when out and about for work, but the power is via a USB cable, so could be used for anything. They can be had for much less than the advertised price if you shop around.

The Garmin battery system is in fact a Power Monkey with a protective and mountable case

It is also worth looking at the Gomadic range who offer a battey unit for the Edge that takes AA batteries, (therefore theoretically if you carry AA batteries has infinite life) and a rechargeable unit

The last time I used my 200 until the battery ran out. I switched it on at 10pm and it lasted until 2pm next day.
However 2 and a half hours were stops where I switched it off. So I would say 11-12 hours MAX.

I don't think my Edge 800 would last a 200. I have it always on and I navigate with it...I had low battery warnings after about 6/7 hours I think

+1 for Colin's point. When my 705 started giving me the warning after that little use I started thinking it was time to replace the battery...
