Incredibly sad that people 'have to have their phone on at all costs. Gone are the days where if you didn't hear from anyone for a few days you thought nothing of it. Now if you don't get a reply in five minutes anxiety kicks in. Personally I have my volume off from new and it is on airplane mode unless I want to use it. I heard someone say the other day that they couldn't live without their phone. Absurd.
It's my work phone, essential to the job (salesman) and 20 years of answering customers immediately is a hard habit to break. As @winjim says, I want people to know I'm not ignoring them but equally I need to stop the temptation. I think I've found a setting in the phone that activates Do Not Disturb when I'm driving and I've changed my answer phone message to include "I may not answer because I'm driving".
