I like to do curries in a slow cooker. If using turmeric I wondered if it had to be fried first (along with eg the onion) but some of the recipes seem to indicate that I can simply sprinke the spices onto the chicken before adding the canned tomotoes and stock.
Anyone use this method ?

No need to fry turmeric. The only requirement is a pure white tunic and white linen tableware.

Either is fine to be fair, there's no hard and fast rule. Just be careful with it, as turmeric stains something horrible.

I also use turmeric for dying hard boiled eggs at Easter. Gives a lovely bright yellow.

If you’re going to be frying onions anyway then I would add the spices at that point, then the chicken and then the liquid/tomatoes etc.

Always fry the curry base and spices, then add to slow cooker.
