Off topic, what is the quality of the surface of that cyclepath, please?
The surface varies from reasonable to not wonderful. It's OK on my CX and would be alright on a Touring bike but not a narrow tyred Road bike. The two tunnels are always wet, and require lights. I'll dig some photos out when I fire up the laptop.

Probably be used to paint a few lines on existing roads and install infrastructure on the same roads so just further infuriating drivers and proving useless to cyclists, a cynic, moi?

Maybe a bit 9f a cynic but who am I to question you. I think you will get a fair bit of paint for 2 billion. :okay:

I'd rather have the railway lines back.
Never happen especially when they are talking about public transport only being able to carry 1 in 10 of its current capacity due to social distancing. Anyway I have written to grant shapps if anyone else feels like doing the same...

Personally i wouldn't. The traffic free disused lines have been fantastic for families to cycle who probably would never have done so otherwise.

We have a Greenway (old railway) running through our city. I dislike it at the best of times for various reasons but am avoiding it like the plague (pardon the pun) at present as there are too many snotters and gobbers in close proximity to you.
Agree there were an excess number of walkers on the path and flexi dog leads are a pain but I think you are missing the point.

These greenways on former railway lines are fine for short commutes or utility riding.

But, they're boring (no variation to the gradient) and slow (walkers and other cyclists), if you're out for a longer ride or wish to make progress.
