My beloved has just rung warning me that the Uxbridge Road coming through Shepherd's Bush to Ealing is very busy as there's been a nasty accident on the A40 and traffic is being diverted.
It is a bit rubbish but it's the most direct route as I come from Southall to Hammersmith. I'm actually looking at one of the proposed cycle highway routes on Tuesday night (Hyde Park to Hanger Lane) but I think the cycle track along the A40 features and it's pants so I'm hoping that's not what they're planning to use!
I dont use any of the cycle tracks along or near there.. Even the great west road ones get shunned... they just are not practical!
I get bibbed alot but am well within my rights! And, well, as the roads are generally heavy with traffic, am usually as quick if not quicker! Last week I made it from Staines to Hyde Park Corner in about 50mins... was a sweaty mess however!
I'm never sure about the legality of riding on the A40. I've seen quite a few people do it and on a few of the roundabouts (the Greenford one, for example) I've gone round on the road rather than attempt to navigate the dreadful underpasses, but are bikes allowed on the A40?
The speed limit is 40mph, so as far as I can remember, its not a problem... but please bare in mind I dont have a driving licence! hehehehe!
I was drafting a lorry at about that speed last time and forgot about the split along there at Brentford/Chiswick, the flyover I think, and went up there by mistake!! I did stop and about turn however!
