Routes announced. Closed roads. I'm not doing it but I live on one of the closed roads so I'll be out early for a cycle

How on earth are they going to fully close off 100 miles of road for several hours?

Same way they do with Ride London. Plus once the broom wagon goes past the road reopens. I suspect the route was chosen to avoid disruption as well as having alternative routes available.

It's going down the main A458 Birmingham to Kidderminster road.
15000 cyclists, of varying abilities, will take a long time to pass - it's not the same as a pro peleton rolling road block, where the road is closed and reopened over a fairly short period.
