Just in case anyone's interested, I just bought a complete Deore V-brake kit (front and rear calipers, pads, levers, noodles, and cable set) from Merlin for £32.95. Bargain!

Because I assumed they are the old parallel push ones, which I didn't like very much, especially the levers (had them on an old GT). Also, they are not for me and they'd be overkill on the town bike for which they are intended.

The parallel push Shimano brakes squeal more than a stuck pig. Much better off with the standard Deores ime.

Avids are even betterer

I like Avid v-brakes but a full set of SD5s (levers, brakes, cables) would set you back about twice as much as the Deore set.
