Hello all,

I've changed the v brakes on my folding bike this afternoon. Was feeling very pleased with myself until I came to adjust the spring tension on the front brakes to find a screw missing.

Can I replace this? Or do I need to replace the lot?

Ah. Unless you can find one in a spares bin, then you'll need new v brakes. Worth a call into a proper LBS.

No one size does not fit all. You might find something that fits. Either that or start searching the floor where you fixed the bike
How do I know what to buy then? Do I have to take the old one off and take it to the shop for a match?

I usually remove mine and replace them with stainless steel grub screws so that I can adjust them with a hex driver. Think they are just a standard 2mm X 10mm grub screw. unless they are completely different on a folding bike, just go to a local screw shop or look online. Cost about 10 pence.

Which manufacturer and model brakes are they? If they're Shimano, have a look in shimano tech docs for the part.

Just had a look in my spares box. I think the screws are more like 3mm (or 4mm) by 8mm long. Either way, they are as cheap as chips. I bought a dozen for about £1. Just take one out and take it to a shop for them to size. I'm lucky here in Leicester, we have a shop specialising in screws and bolts of every description.
