I feel your pain having had varifocals for a little while. Very occasionally I have to remove them for really close work. Did consider surgery, but potentially its not going to last a life time.

I don’t think you should go in for surgery. As a potential patient, I’d be worried about your eyesight. 😁

but the optician said he has come across people who just cannot cope
it depends on how you brain works apparently

It’s not the varifocals that are my problem, I’ve been happy with those for 20 years or so. It’s getting the frames to stay put so I can use the near range even when my head is upside down.

I’ll see we what my Local Optometrist can do, and report back.

I have some special glasses for riding. I got them because I don;t want to risk scratching the main ones
and I could do with spares in case I do scratch them in normal life

they came with a back strap which would stop them rattling around

I am sure there will be glasses that are designed for work where you are at risk of then not being secure
you optician would be able to find out

Mine said he liked searching for prescription glasses for cycling - I suppose it is a fairly repetitive sort of profession - just different people and different numbers
so looking for something different was a nice change for him!
