You tried working on bike without wearing your glasses?

The annoyance of varifocals is having to look down at something distant or up at something close.

I feel your pain having had varifocals for a little while. Very occasionally I have to remove them for really close work. Did consider surgery, but potentially its not going to last a life time.

I don’t think you should go in for surgery. As a potential patient, I’d be worried about your eyesight. 😁

I got used to it in a few days

but the optician said he has come across people who just cannot cope
it depends on how you brain works apparently

It’s not the varifocals that are my problem, I’ve been happy with those for 20 years or so. It’s getting the frames to stay put so I can use the near range even when my head is upside down.

I’ll see we what my Local Optometrist can do, and report back.

I have some special glasses for riding. I got them because I don;t want to risk scratching the main ones
and I could do with spares in case I do scratch them in normal life

they came with a back strap which would stop them rattling around

I am sure there will be glasses that are designed for work where you are at risk of then not being secure
you optician would be able to find out

Mine said he liked searching for prescription glasses for cycling - I suppose it is a fairly repetitive sort of profession - just different people and different numbers
so looking for something different was a nice change for him!

I have these from Rock Bros for cycling. They come with a myopia frame and blank lenses which I got my optician to have made with my near and far prescriptions - I can manage without the middle distance prescription.

My "cycling glasses" are the type with a separate inner pair of prescription lens and out things which you can change between clear, dark and amber

They are very fiddly to change - but I'm getting the hang of it

As far as the prescription goes I just have single vision based on the distance prescription
which I only notice if I have to read something close up and suddenly realise that it is all fussy
even the ebike controller on the handlebars is perfectly clear to read

Sometimes I wish for upside-down varifocals when working on bikes, I can't be looking down my nose to the reading focus bit half the time. Usually I just take me glasses of and try not to stand on them.

Try wearing them upside down! 😆
I’m only half joking. I’ve done it myself on occasion, but it doesn’t work if your eyes have vastly different prescriptions!

Get used to being unable to see maybe, but if it were possible to see with the wrong lens people wouldn't need spex in the first place. I can shift them further down my nose when I want to read the bathroom scale, but bending down to look underneath a low shelf is problem I can't solve.
