There's a 80th VE day party in Cae Glas Park, Oswestry on Saturday. I might go to it as I'm fairly certain that I was at the 25th. My memory is a bit hazy as I'd just started primary school.

I might pop-out to one of the local events on Saturday.

I was a bit puzzled by talk of a minute's silence; surely we're celebrating victory? Seems odd to combine parties with sadness 😕

Not doing anything in particular, just thinking about all those people that lost their lives, or were affected for the rest of their days because of the war, but it's a bit of a funny one as it's mid-week, and of course for some people the war didn't end until VJ day

I didn't celebrate anything, I often think of my Great Uncle Hugh dying in that Wellington Bomber over Berlin in 1940. What would any silence or red flower improve? 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I don't 'celebrate' such things, instead I commemorate such events.

Not WW2 I know, but still worth commemorating.

I went on a ride yesterday. Several villages had loads of bunting out and one had a display of a tea party, with life size knitted people (complete with amorous servicemen!). Forgot my phone, so will try to get back for a few pics soon.

That's fine - to be clear, I have no problem at all with that!

It just confused me. Partly because even my council-staff partner heard nothing about it - and they're usually all over this stuff.
But mainly cos I don't recall us doing this with other war anniversaries. It's normally one mood or the other. I think. Am I mistaken? Wouldn't be the first time ...

(I'd actually rather we focused on Armistice Day wrt to the lost lives - encompassing all conflicts, all nationalities - but I have total respect for anyone else wanting to honour the dead at another time.)
