What, worse than a meat eater?????????????

Yep, a lot worse. Years ago a mate of mine, Jude, who was vegetarian decided to start feeding her dog with a non-meat diet. Emptied the pub a few times when it 'let one off', she said it was even worse in her campervan.

I did a lot of research before putting my dogs on a raw diet as I needed to make sure I was doing my best for my dogs, the rawhide making process cropped up whilst I was researching, kind of scary when I think I let previously owned dogs have them. I lost one of my dogs a few years ago to leukemia, the vet did say it is unusual for a dog to get this form of cancer and the dog was less than ten years old, it does make me wonder.

Mine gets raw food as everything else makes her vomit. I put it down to years of eating rubbish (she's a Labrador) but I wonder if the rawhide chews she used to get were part of the problem? Never mind, it's worked out for the best. These days, she has to roll in something else's poo to smell. Cooked meat and biscuits for cats and dogs really isn't worth it.

Why would anyone want to do something as unnatural as that, dogs are carnivores by nature, can't be good for the dog and the stinky flatulence (gas in the gut) is pretty much proof that something is wrong.

Yep she returned the dog to pedigree chum and winalot diet pretty sharpish. It was a new product at the 'Wholefood shop' (this was back in the 80s) so Jude thought she'd try feeding the dog it, a bad idea.

My dogs will occasionally munch on a carrot but it mostly ends up in pieces on the floor rather than eaten, the only "greens" they seem to willingly eat is grass.

I'm yet to encounter a dog who likes mushrooms but the assortment of working sheepdogs, JRTs, Labs and Scotties, plus a Cairn and a Basset that I've known says that pretty much anything else goes.

Not saying I'd ever put my dog on a vegetarian diet but they can consume non-meat products, which technically makes them omnivores rather than exclusive carnivores. As I understand it, cats shouldn't be fed anything but a meat-based diet.

FWIW, my vet recommends mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs (no dairy in either) as a recovery meal for dogs with dodgy bellies.
