They've got a huge backlog at the dealerships. I was given a May appointment for mine when I enquired in January.
That's hardly fair. Yesterday the government was encouraging citizens to buy diesel, now they're penalising them for doing so. I think it should be phased out, rather than banned.Even bigger savings to be made by banning diesels, and the sooner the better.

A genuinely good idea. Fortunately like most good ideas it'll never happen (said the guy with the 20 year old indifferently-maintained Golf).Just been listening to Radio 4, a bit of a discussion about vehicle emissions, the forthcoming diesel Toxicity Tax in London, and how during on road testing VW vehicles were churning out as much crud as a typical HGV.
And then it hit me.
Road tax from year 3 onwards should be based upon the emissions from the MOT. The better condition, and better maintained your car, the less you pay.
Manufacturers can't cheat it, and it encourages people to maintain their car, thus giving us cleaner air.
In fact, the MOT emissions figure could be multiplied by the previous years mileage, which would also incentivise people to drive less.
Drivers should pay based on:
1. How heavy the car is.
2. How powerful it is.
3. Distance driven annually.
4. How much footprint the car takes up on the road.
5. If the car will normally be parked off the road.
6. Some form of pollution control but idk how to enforce that last bit.
.

Are they going to map the cars back to where the emisisons should be or fit modified parts? Not read anything on this yet.

From the letters I've had, it's a software update only. I've been waiting over a year for mine now.
Sounds like its being de-tuned then so will loose some power and drivability. Not fair for the people who bought based on what they had driven.
I don't think you can lose power or driveability on a 1.6 diesel Passat![]()

They are OK until they do this,Governments. Turbo diesels are too nice to drive to just go and get rid of them.
