I've been stopped at the gates with my folder at Bank, until I folded it. I'd be very surprised you could board in central London with a full sized bike on the lines it's officially banned (eg central line, DLR)

It is not officially banned to take a bike on the Central Line. You can only travel between specific times. I do it at least once a month and the TFL PDF image @ianrauk provides in this thread clearly shows this as well.
Bank station has restriction for cycles based upon accessibility & the gap between the platform and train on some services.
You can neither board a train with an unfolded bike at this station or permitted to depart at this station with an unfolded bike.

Bikes are also permitted (not banned) on DLR which you can discover with Google.

It clearly shows they are not allowed.

Do try to be correct when you are being patronising. Otherwise you look like an arse.

(DLR used to ban folding bikes that were not in a bag, and full sized bikes at all times. Good they have fixed that, I haven't needed to take DLR in a long time)

Hotels depend on when you are going,
canary wharf hotels are cheaper at weekends and are a shortish cycle ride , up the canal path , from the olympic park

If you are bringing a nice bike, make sure you can bring it into your hotel room or lock it up somewhere in the hotel. I would not like to leave a bike outside overnight in central London, or Stratford or CW.

I can attest that the Holiday Inn at Westfield in Stratford didn't bat an eyelid when I wheeled my bike into the lift. Travelodge are definitely cool with bikes in rooms, too.
