I got an e-mail through from Wiggle this morning, advertising the latest addition to their Verenti range.

It's got an impressive spec for not many sheets.

My initial thought was that it was aiming squarely at Decathlon, in terms of a quality budget offering. My perception is that Wiggle are far better known in the UK, so I wonder how Decathlon might respond.

I saw this too, the aspect I like most about it is the styling, it seems most budget offerings try and 'bling' things up and end up looking tacky and cheap.

This reminds me of some older Genesis styling; simple, clean and understated.

Totally agree with you there. I quite like the styling throughout the Verenti range, particularly the logo as it's a bit of minimalist class in a world where most brands are having a shouting match.

It looks a similar spec to the Merlin Cycles PR7 which is £375 and sold out.

For someone who's after an first road bike or a basic commuter it's fine. I like it.

It does indeed. Though I think the frame is a bit more refined on the Verenti - the welds look much smoother.

And if I had to look down at this every day (as it appears to be on the down-tube), I would be highly disappointed. Whoever is responsible wants a word with themselves.

Nice touch with the Claris and the weight is nice & low too. Makes it a good rival for the Defy 5 as well, especially at that price.

a cracking bike fore the money, up against the giant defy 5 and felt f95 and would be happy with any of them

Looks like a decent bike for the money, given that it's got 4ZA finishing kit, I'll wager it's got something to do with Ridley.
