Maternal grandparents were Scottish/Welsh, paternal great grandfather was a Scottish jew. I could wear the McFarlane tartan but I prefer Black Watch. It's worn by men who are hench. Black Watch tartan is a universal tartan and does not need a clan affiliation.

There's plenty of kilt stores online. Many of them are owned by Indians.

I hate to tell you this, but those were in fact skirts!

Nope... (although I notice a couple of Scottish companies are now copying the design).

They are more skirt like than kilt like.

They're based on the Roman kilt (which many would argue is based on the Assyrian kilt but which, anyhow, predates the Scottish kilt).

The key difference is the pleats go two ways, whereas Scottish kilt pleats go one way.

So they are skirts.
