What rubbish, try actually thinking yeah! and put yourself in the position of the bus driver and his positioning with respect to the cyclist. It's not like the cyclist is going to stop dead is he?!?! People go on me about growing a brain cell...good lord.

Yes, he may well stop dead. Cyclist falls off at that speed, with the bus behind him at that distance, and the cyclist is dead. Thats why the bus was too close; if you drove like that on a driving test, you'd be failed.

If you keep this up, I'll tell your mum and dad to take away your computer privileges.

Right, thats enough of this guys eh? This runs the risk of becoming a slanging match or, worse, a witch hunt. Lets back off a bit and calm down chaps, eh?

I think everyone's pretty calm, just most are wondering why Lee felt the need to waste people's time by 'fishing'.

Nobody got too angry (compared with Mr Paul and LLB at the height of their little spat ;)) about what he was saying as it was clear he was talking out of his rear end. I just wonder if his guilty pleasure of fishing may take a turn for the worse if he starts this on something closer to someone's heart... say during a thread about someone's friend dying as a result of a collision between an HGV and a cyclist.

I've no problem with a bit of baiting/fishing/winding people up... but there's a time and place for it... during a serious thread which concerned the safety of a fellow cyclist is not that time/place as far as I'm concerned.

We've learnt our lesson now. We just ignore most of what Lee says in the future, which is a shame as he may have some useful and enriching information at some point.

Posting something contentious, rude or just plain wrong in the hope of getting a response is called 'trolling', and there are good reasons why to do so is bad netiquette. Lee, really, if you keep that up you'll end up entirely ostracising yourself from other contributors here. For your own sake, if thats what you've been doing, stop it.

I think you need to work out the stopping distance before you post.;)

Have you worked out how many seconds 2m is at 10mph? That's what you thought was an acceptable distance, after all.

10mph = 16.1km/h = 4.5m/s
2m - 0.44s
3m - 0.67s
6m - 1.34s
7m - 1.57s

Just remind me, what gap does the highway code suggest leaving between you and the vehicle in front? 2 seconds is the answer. Rule 126 is what you're looking for, which, co-incidentally says:

"remember, large vehicles and motorcycles need a greater distance to stop. If driving a large vehicle in a tunnel, you should allow a four-second gap between you and the vehicle in front"

If you're in your HGV/bus and only leaving the above distances, you're making a mistake that you really should know better than to make. Time to take the foot out of your mouth and admit you made a big mistake yet?

Err, yes, I read that earlier. The problem is I'm pretty sure you were serious about your 2-3m claim, and now you want to stop looking stupid and claim you were trolling all along. Unfortunately I'm pretty good at reading negative behaviour and untruth from others as a result of spending far too much time as an auditor, and you have no credibility in my eyes.

Hardly a good way out of a hole though. "Don't worry everyone, I'm not an idiot, I'm a troll". Neither option looks good.
