Hi Guys, something i've been thinking about lately is to create a video blog of my cycling journey. I'm not new to cycling and keep myself reasonably fit (can run a 10k in 54mins) My current average speed is approx 11mph and I currently have a few set routes in the bristol area.

I'm always looking for new challenges, last week I cycled from north bristol to yeovil (my old hometown) I love to explore new routes and try new things. This week I have found out I am going to be loaned a road bike for a few months to get a feel for it (ive never ridden one in my life) hopefully should get my average speed up.

If i do start this channel would it be something i could share here to get feedback and advice on?

recorded my first journey this week. will be putting the channel together soon. Have been thinking of calling it "Liam Rides" but that may sound like a Grindr account........ what do you lot reckon?

Vlogs need a good camera and mic imo. You can overdub after but its generally easier to do it all-in. If you're planning on chatting as you ride it might present a bit of an issue with windnoise - some of the motorbike vloggers get around this by careful secretion of an external mic in the helmet (oo-er).

Its easier if you're planning to just chat to camera from a location (like Durian Rider sometimes does). I know a couple of peeps who have used cheap DSLRs (eg Nikon D3300 or similar) and plugged in a Rode mic for basic presentations - that should work very well for Vlogging.

agreed. my plan is to use a go pro on the handle bars and then cut that with an intro/outtro of me on location whilst possibly commenting on highlights of the trip

ive a few cameras at the moment but will probably just use an XF100 to shoot the intro and a hero1 to shoot the bike cam.

Its all about personal taste I guess and also what you get put of doing it.

Personally, I dislike vlogs that show footage from the same angle all the time, it becomes really repetitive. The best blog I have seen was from a motorcyclist who rode across Iceland and had multiple view points, including a static cam mounted I the distance...easy when there is no one around to nick the cam

I've done a few myself but never with commentary and always about a specific journey, whilst I enjoy making and watching them, I prefer reading my written blogs of the same experience.
