That's madness! I don't have a helmet/bike camera but if I did I would probably delete everything on a rolling 7 or 14 day period and only keep anything exceptional permanently. By exceptional I mean any truly unbelievable sites or an epic climax to a special ride (probably only one or two clips a year).
190GB is a stupendously huge amount of dead/useless data. Wipe it now!

I keep the bits that might be of use later on (not much) the rest deleted daily

**I use a 500GB USB backup for my music/docs/important files etc even though my main HDD is 1TB

Is it really? these days it's not really that much, back in the day when 20Mb hard drive was bigger than a house brick yes, but that's less than 4 64Gb SD cards so nothing at all.

It's not a huge amount of data, but it is a ridiculous amount of useless data, and for what purpose?
I don't understand why it's useless, granted some of it will be, but some could be of nice places/rides/memories, I have a clip going down the side of a canal about 5 miles, I quite often watch it when it's miserable outside, especially the bit where I fall off & somehow manage to see my own face in the camera that is mounted on the handlebars, still don't know how that happened. Also the OP doesn't say how long this collection is over.

So, when are you going to post that bit.

The collection is over a year and is on my NAS. I'm thinking of making a video of one stretch, seeing how it's changed.

Please don't invite anybody round to view your home movies!

Selected highlights are on YouTube
when are you uploading on to youtube so we can all see ?
If I knew how to edit it so it was only 90 seconds or so I would but despite my efforts on both Linux & Mac I can't do it

There are a number of free Video Editing Apps available on the Ubuntu (linux) software store.

One which comes to mind is called OpenShot (if I remember correctly). I have not used it personally, but, my 8 year old grandson mastered it in less than an hour. At that point, I just kept out of the way.

Reference your original Post. Disk space is cheap, so, 190Gb is not excessive IMHO, if you want the stuff that is.

I use Blender's video editor for mixing but if you just want to cut out timed sections, avconv command line tool can take start and stop times.

I only keep interesting stuff. Most of it gets deleted when the card is full.

From Sales I keep forever because I haven't set them up for cloud storage yet. The phone and gopro goes to cloud pretty much whenever a photo or video is taken.

You may have to send the boy around, just tried without much success. I'll keep playing, it's supposed to be easy like falling off a bike
