There are a number of free Video Editing Apps available on the Ubuntu (linux) software store.

One which comes to mind is called OpenShot (if I remember correctly). ...

Vidcutter's another one. Does no more than allow you to clip the necessary bits, and save 'em.

I quite often record my rides but wondered what to do with the footage as next to nobody would want to see it. I decided to upload it to YouTube which is set to public but it's really just for me. I did record my cycle round Arran in the summer which someone may be thinking of doing could check out. I usually just break my recordings down in sections to make it easier to upload. That and the battery and SD card only last around 80 minutes or so in the settings I've chosen.

If I knew how to edit it so it was only 90 seconds or so I would but despite my efforts on both Linux & Mac I can't do it

I use Avidemux on Linux. Nice and simple. You select the begining and end of a deletion with [A] and then press delete. Once you have deleted what you don't want you save the video and post to YouTube.
