Virgin - a house of cards

About 5 years ago, a colleague returned from a year secondment with the Cabinet Office and when Virgin was mentioned he said quite authoritively that it was a house of cards. He said that it was sitting on a mountain of debts and matter of time it collapsed. Within a year he moved to a consultancy company.

Till today I wonder how our govt relies on folks like this to provide advisory.

Cool. I'm glad we've got that settled.

@User is on to it by mentioning the many companies in the Virgin family. RB business model is spreading the risk and making his partners carry much of the risk. He has never come away second best in any partnership.
That's not how it is though. He owns nothing "lock, stock and barrel". He's tended to set up a particular company ythen sell most of it off, with some conditions. It's almost a brand licensing activity.

If you're talking about him reinvesting as soon as he can get money out of a company then that's how business works.
I am with you. Yes, that how he operates. It gives the impression that it is a vast holding company. Your point about brand licensing is absolutely right.
